Seaweed, the Planet and Marine Permaculture
What we do
At the Climate Foundation, we work tirelessly to find nature-based solutions to help our beloved Earth. In the past we've demonstrated that coral bleaching can be reversed. We found a way to sequester CO2, improve soil and fix a sewage problem in India all with the same method. In addition we figured out how to improve the air quality in India, as well as exploring azolla as one of the many solutions to lowering CO2 in the atmosphere.
Our latest development of marine permaculture is based on the realization that some seaweeds are the fastest growing autotrophs on the planet, doubling in size faster than any other multicellular plant on the planet. Unfortunately, the oceans are becoming too warm to sustain many seaweeds, which means that the Earth could lose some of its highest fixers of Co2. We have created Marine Permaculture to work by deep water irrigation in one of two ways; historically bringing cooler waters to the seaweed, or, going forward, lowering the seaweed to the cooler water below. Besides helping seaweed grow, it has the wonderful side effects of regenerating additional habitat for marine creatures, providing sustainably economics for ocean communities while also sequestering Co2. Take a look at the following information to learn more.
