The non-profit organisation Climate Foundation is seeking an enthusiastic and capable project leader to develop a Marine Permaculture pilot deployment in Tasmania. The Marine Permaculture project in Tasmania is designed to further develop environmental and sustainable seaweed mariculture infrastructure, progressing towards environmental regeneration of ocean ecosystems and additionally helping fix carbon, facilitating carbon draw-down and reducing ocean acidification locally.
The role includes engineering, research, supervising marine operations in rough Tasmanian waters, marine biological science, technical project management, stakeholder and logistical management, growing seaweed, job flexibility, engagement with stakeholders and a combination of environmental and industrial motivation. The applicant should be able to work with remote communications from home, in the field and potentially in a laboratory setting.
Due to current re-location restrictions, and a requirement to begin training shortly, applicants should be located in Tasmania.
As a startup organisation in a new Australian industry, only part time equivalent financial compensation is currently available, making it essential that the individual is aligned with the project’s environmental and industrial vision, and motivated to work towards the regeneration of our oceans.
Minimum requirements. Marine operational experience in rough waters found near Tasmania Project leadership and stakeholder management experience. Logistics management experience Professional interpersonal and communication skills. Marine boating experience - a boating license. Technology (Engineering, maritime, aquaculture, etc) degree required. Graduate degree preferred SCUBA Diving qualification. Must be able to work independently Must be able to work alone Must be willing to sign up for delivering on key project objectives. Must be comfortable in the ocean
Optional but helpful capabilities Coxswains boating license or equivalent. Experience with Marine hardware Marine Engineering Experience Commercial diving license, ADAS Part-1. Masters degree or higher in biological or marine sciences. HDPE welding experience.
