Micha van Winkelhof

A few years ago Micha was in Kanu, northern Nigeria, where he witnessed a farmer cutting down the last remaining tree in sight. It turned out that it was the final chapter for the farm, there was nothing else growing. It was this event that convinced Micha that he needed to throw his energy into helping find solutions regarding climate change. As a result, Micha joined the Climate Foundation team to support operations, strategy and scaling. He is highly driven and enthused to use his experience to improve the health of the planet.
A focused leader and strategist, Micha held leadership roles across Africa, the Americas and Europe in the areas of: Information Technology and Data; Startups; FMCG; Logistics and Distribution; Aviation; Security; Telecommunications; Marketing and Communications. His board positions have included: Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, Finance Director, Business Development and Strategy.
Education includes an MBA and a B.Sc. (Honours) in Environmental Studies, was a member of the Securities Institute in London and a licenced stockbroker and financial advisor in the USA. He spent a decade in the City of London in banking & finance; NatWest Bank and VP @JPMorgan leading restructuring projects evaluating internal businesses and three years managing the valuation control group for the Credit Markets Europe business responsible for reserves of c £30 million.
His focus in Africa was transforming family businesses into corporates, with a turnover of 50m-100m USD, preparing them for expansion / diversification, financing (capital raise) and / or listing. As an example, he successfully launched an airline in DR Congo which included leading country (market entry) analysis, inception, team building, asset purchase, marketing and launch.
Micha also founded and raised capital for Opus Insights, a start-up with the mission of increasing efficiency of soft commodity supply chains through data in Africa. This included climate and yield data, supporting supply chain stakeholders from smallholders to multinationals and developing climate adaptation strategies.
